Diverse PeopleA controversial University of Louisville job ad made waves recently in the higher ed community. The controversy comes at a time when recent events at the University of Missouri, Yale University and other higher ed institutions serve as a reminder that a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion must be the personal and professional responsibility of every higher education leader and member of the campus community.

It’s not always easy, though, for institutions to put that idea into practical action, especially when it comes to faculty and staff recruitment.

Bottom line: every college and university must have a plan in place in the event tragedy unfolds on their campus.

DOL’s Persuader Rule Nears Fruition


unionAfter years of delay, DOL's “persuader” rule is inching closer to publication. On December 7, DOL’s Office of Labor-Management Standards, taking the final step before a rule can be published, sent a proposed final rule to the Office of Management and Budget. The rule would increase reporting requirements for employers facing union organizing campaigns on almost any communication with employees about unions if a consultant or attorney has assisted the employer. Previously scheduled to be finalized in December 2015, the rule is now slated for finalization early next year.
